A Manhattan lawmaker told the grunge singer that she's going to have to pay the sum to posh jeweller Jacob & Co after some necklaces she borrowed were not returned.
Love was loaned two white gold diamond chains, a pair of diamond earrings and one 'white gold floral mesh cuff bracelet' for a charity event last year but the necklaces failed to make it back to the lender.
Love can be seen wearing the bling at The New Yorkers for Children Benefit last year but Jacob & Co never saw the necklaces or earrings again.
Before she borrowed the jewels Love signed a memo saying she knew the chains were valued at $34,200 each, the earrings at $45,300 and the bracelet was worth $70,000. It said she acknowledged that all the pieces must be returned to Jacob 'on demand', court papers state.
'Love states that, after the charity event, she placed both chains and the earrings in a bag and delivered them to the staff at the Mercer Hotel, where she was residing at the time, with instructions to return it to Jacob,' Justice Doris Ling-Cohan wrote in her decision.
The 47-year-old singer said she continued to wear the bracelet, but later gave them to hotel staff with orders for them to return them.
'Love alleges that the Mercer staff returned the bracelet to Jacob, but that they lost the bag containing the chains and earrings,' the ruling says.
'I don't know what happened,' said Love’s lawyer, James Janowitz, 'but Courtney doesn't have the jewels.'
The necklaces have not yet been located.
As the main beneficiary of her late husband Kurt Cobain's estate Love shouldn’t have too much trouble stumping up the cash.
