Courtney Love to stand trial

Courtney Love has been ordered to stand trial on a charge of assault with a deadly weapon after a judge heard testimony from the alleged victim. Kristin King told the Los Angeles court Ms Love threw a bottle and a lit candle at her after turning up at the home of a former boyfriend in the early hours.

Ms Love's defence unsuccessfully tried to get the felony charge reduced to a lesser misdemeanour offence.

The singer was ordered to return to court to offer a plea on 10 November.

"There is uncontroverted evidence that without provocation the defendant threw a bottle at the victim and chased her with a flashlight," said Superior Court Commissioner Sanjay Kumar .

Ms King told the court Ms Love was "vicious" and "erratic" when she allegedly attacked her while she slept on a sofa on 25 April.

She said Ms Love then sat on her, pulled her hair and pinched her left breast in the "worst pinch I ever had", before managing to flee.

A neighbour also testified to hearing screaming and crying.

The assault trial is the latest in a long line of legal troubles for the former Hole singer.

She was recently handed a conditional discharge for hitting a man with a microphone at a concert in New York, with orders to pick up the victim's medical bills and complete a drug programme.

Speaking outside court, Ms Love's lawyer Howard Weitzman said that despite the regular court appearances the performer wanted to move on with her life.
