Breaking with "American Idol" tradition, Crystal Bowersox originally wanted to delay the release of her debut album so she could take her time with the project. However, with Farmer's Daughter hitting stores December 14, it looks like the season-nine runner-up had more than enough time to devote to the project — and she has penned almost all the songs herself.
"I wrote — a rough guess — about 90 percent of the songs on the album," the songstress said in a fan Q&A session with VH1 News. "We haven't finally decided what songs are not going on the album, so I can't give an exact number."
Bowersox's first single, "Hold On," has yet to hit airwaves, but the star said the song should be available before the album hits stores. The cut is just one of a few tracks the 25-year-old did not write herself, instead penned by Nickelback's Chad Kroeger and former "Idol" judge Kara DioGuardi.
Aside from the lead track, the 12-song set will also include a cover of Buffalo Springfield's "For What It's Worth." The recently married singer said the 1976 anti-war track's lyrics transcend generations. "Its lyrics are relevant no matter what era it is, whatever war we're in and issues in the world," she said. "The song is always relevant."
