The Australian singer gave birth to her first child, Ethan, in July and admits she never felt broody before she began dating rugby-player-turned-model Kris Smith. Dannii says Kris made it clear he wanted to have a family and after spending time with him, the 39-year-old star realised she wanted to be a mother too.
She has adjusted well to parenthood, insisting her feelings about babies completely changed when she gave birth.
“I wasn’t broody, definitely not. I never had that ticking clock, it was just my relationship with Kris got to a point where it was something that I really wanted to do with him. He was the one who really wanted a baby,” Dannii explained to the British edition of Glamour. “I’ve never really been into anyone’s newborns. In fact it completely grossed me out. All the clichés of new parents are true. When it’s your own, you just do it.”
Dannii is happy juggling her job as a judge on British talent show The X Factor with raising her son. While she is still adjusting to being a working mother, she says Kris is keen to start expanding their family soon.
“He’s put that on the shopping list: another baby,” she explained. “I’m lucky Ethan’s a very good baby and Kris is a super dad, so confident and good with him.”
Dannii also revealed her son is growing fast and is already showing signs he will be tall when he is older. The diminutive star has joked it won’t be long before he outgrows her. “Ethan is a maxi Minogue, very long,” she laughed. “My friend said the other day, ‘You know when you see parents in the park with a kid in the middle, swinging the kid?’ She said that will be happening soon, but it will be Kris and Ethan on either side, and they’ll be swinging mummy!”
