Depeche Mode singer Dave Gahan has had emergency cancer surgery.
The 47-year-old frontman underwent an operation to remove a "low-grade" malignant tumour from his bladder after routine hospital tests revealed he had the illness.
A statement from the band said: "On May 12, lead singer Dave Gahan suffered a severe bout of gastroenteritis, leading to his hospitalisation and the cancellation of the Athens concert.
"While in hospital further medical tests revealed a low-grade malignant tumour in Dave's bladder which has been successfully removed."
The 'Just Can't Get Enough' hitmakers – also consisting of Martin Gore and Andrew Fletcher – have been forced to cancel their show at London's O2 arena tomorrow (30.05.09) while Dave recovers from the operation.
The band have already been forced to cancel nine 'Tour Of The Universe' dates due to Dave's previous nasty stomach bug.
The statement continued: "At doctors' orders, Dave must take a break until June 8, to ensure that he makes a full recovery. Dave Gahan sincerely thanks his fans for their support, understanding and patience."
Dave is currently recovering in his New York home and preparing for the band's next scheduled show in Leipzig, Germany, on June 8.
