Dave Grohl reveals the trailer for a doco on legendary studio Sound City, featuring Tom Petty, Stevie Nicks, Trent Reznor and more.
The Hollywood Reporter reveals that Grohl will produce and direct a documentary on San Fernando Valley studio Sound City, where he recorded Nevermind with Nirvana, and which has been the source of countless classic albums.
According to the trailer, Tom Petty, Stevie Nicks, Lindsay Buckingham, Timmy C from RATM, Josh Homme of QOTSA, Barry Manilow, Trent Reznor and many more musicians will appear in the documentary.
Petty's Damn The Tropedoes, Fleetwood Mac's self-titled album and Rumours were recorded there, and Grohl joined Nine Inch Nails at the studio to record.
Sound City was also the home of Neil Young's After The Gold Rush, Rage Against The Machine's self-titled debut, Metallica's Death Magnetic, Dr John's Dr. John's Gumbo, and scores more.
Grohl said in a press release: "Sound City is a film about America's greatest unsung recording studio. It was the birthplace of history. It was a witness to history. It was home to a special few, intent on preserving an ideal. An analog church. A time capsule. The last bastion of a craft defied by technology. It was rock 'n' roll hallowed ground. And it was our best-kept secret. Now I want to tell its story."
