Actor Dick Van Dyke survived a car fire this past summer on the 101 freeway in Calabasas, California that totaled his Jaguar.
Access Hollywood interviewed Mr. Van Dyke on Wednesday who told the TV chat show that it didn’t stop him from getting another Jaguar.
Mr. Van Dyke, 87, said he can’t recall another time when he got so much attention from the media.
“I never had so much PR.” Dick tells Access Hollywood about his scorched car, even joked that he “tried to sell it to the fireman before it was gone, but..”
He elaborated on the fire: “A little smoke yeah. And I called up AAA and tried to tell them. And then I saw flames coming out and I said never mind. The funny thing is the fire department was there in about 12 minutes, the paparazzi were there in 10. They've got a network.”
“...I was picking up my stuff off the floor and a guy came and he said all I saw was this white haired man bent over and he yanked me out of the car. You know, he was a good Samaritan. But I hadn't gotten my stuff together.”
“So everyone thought you were slumped over at the wheel and actually you were like where's my glasses?” Billy says.
“They thought the old guy's out. But he was a good Samaritan. He stopped and yanked me out. It's nice to know.”
“I have another Jaguar. I have a fire extinguisher in the front seat.” Dick says. “They sent me a loaner the next morning but I just bought another one. I like Jaguars.” He says.
