Dirty Pretty Things secret gig

Dirty Pretty Things converted a secret venue into an underground station for a special one off gig last night (May 9) to celebrate the launch of their debut album 'Waterloo To Anywhere'.

An audience of 200 people, which included manager Alan McGee and a small group of fans who were lucky enough to win tickets via their mobile phones, watched Carl Barat and co tear through an hour set at the 'Anywhere' venue near London Bridge underground.

As the band arrived onstage to massive cheers at the Nokia organised event, bassist Didz Hammond shouted: "Elo, elo, how's it going?," before they kicked off their set with album track 'Deadwood'.

As well as performing songs from their debut such as 'Doctors And Dealers', 'If You Love A Woman' and hit single 'Bang Bang You're Dead', the four-piece sent their fans into a wild frenzy when they threw in Libertines classics 'Death On The Stairs', 'France' and 'I Get Along'.

Barat, who was sporting a black and white striped t-shirt throughout the gig, even took time out to dedicate the track 'Playboys' to any 'Middlesbrough fans in the audience' in reference to their team's UEFA Cup final tonight (May 10).

The highlight of the night though came during the encore when the band took part in a bizarre raffle prize draw which saw members of the crowd awarded with bottles of Jack Daniels, a giant inflatable cigarette and a VHS copy of the comedy horror classic 'An American Werewolf In London'.

During the draw Barat also grabbed hold of a fan onstage and shouted: "This guy has already had a plectrum and a bottle of Jack Daniels and now he wants the shirt off my back," before he tore his top off and handed it over.

As Dirty Pretty Things rounded off their set with 'I Get Along', both Barat and guitarist Anthony Rossomando were mobbed as they jumped into the audience.
