Ed Harcourt revealed a new band at a secret gig in West London on Saturday night (January 30).
Playing to a packed crowd at Nektar in Latimer Road, Harcourt introduced Wild Boar, a three piece rock band in the vein of Queens Of The Stone Age, with an aggressive half-hour set.
Contrasting with his regular activities, Harcourt explained that he's had Wild Boar in mind for sometime and described the band's first performance as "cathartic".
"It was great to rock fucking hard," he declared. "That was our first proper rehearsal as a band and our first gig rolled into one so it was a bit shambolic but I think that made it better."
Harcourt added it naturally complemented his more regular albums. "It's the other side of the coin," he said. "Initially the ideal behind Wild Boar was to offend as many people as possible but they actually like us, which is good."
Wild Boar's setlist was:
'Wild Boar Theme'
'Satan Made Me Do It'
'Baby Wants A Monster Truck'
'Tenderizer'
'No Time To Fuck'
'Henry Rollins' Neck Is Bigger Than His Head'
'I'm In Love With My Therapist'
Harcourt, who plays the Children of the Tsunami Concert at The Garage this evening (January 31), confirmed that he's been demoing Wild Boar material for the last month and hopes to make a record later this year. More surprise gigs are also planned.
In the meantime Harcourt releases single 'Loneliness' from his current album 'Strangers' on February 14, and proving his musical dexterity further plays a show backed by a string quartet at St James Church in London on February 12.
