Taylor Swift kicked off her long-awaited Red Tour with Ed Sheeran earlier this month. But the six-month trek almost started and ended at the pair's first stop in Omaha, Nebraska, when a "Lord of the Rings" prop almost skewered the "We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together" singer.
While hitching a ride in Swift's private plane to Nashville, Tennessee (where both currently reside), the British singer's carry-on included a sword he received from director Peter Jackson.
"It's like a real sword," Sheeran told. "I got it shipped over, shipped over to Omaha, so I was bringing it back to Nashville and I think [Taylor] and her crew were weirded out by it anyway. They were just like, 'Why does Ed have a sword?' "
Although Sheeran laughs about it now, he might have been a little bit more careful with his prized possession.
"As the plane started to take off, it was on the table and it went like this," Sheeran explained as he motioned the aircraft's ascent with his hand. "The plane is kind of taking off and [the sword] started sliding down and I was like, 'No!' It was just about to impale Taylor."
Other than their near disastrous flight, the two haven't found any time to hang out offstage, but that hasn't stopped Sheeran from making new friends.
"I got taken out by all of Taylor's dancers to like this, it was like a dive bar, blues club," Sheeran replied when asked for crazy stories from the road. "You need to start going out with dancers because they turn every situation into an episode of 'Glee.' It's incredible. You're just there and you kind of walk in and suddenly it's strike a pose on the table and then do this kind of dance, and there's like one girl who's grinding up against this old harmonica player and they're all doing these dances."
With more than 50 U.S. dates in the upcoming months, the duo will have plenty of time to kick it on tour. Swift just might think twice before letting Sheeran (and his sword) back on her plane.
