Ed Sheeran opens care suite in hometown

Ed Sheeran helped christen a suite in his name at a care home in his hometown of Suffolk, England on Tuesday (20Oct15).

The Lego House singer was back in his native Framlingham to celebrate the newly renovated Mills Meadow centre, which provides nursing care for older people.

Ed, who was joined by his mum and dad, took a tour around the facility and spent time talking to residents and their family members, before cutting the ribbon to the aptly named Sheeran Suite, one of four new suites at the care home.

"It's quite nice here," the singer told local newspaper the East Anglian Daily Times. "My grandfather passed away from dementia in a home like this, so it's nice to see what they are doing here - they're doing some good stuff.

"My dad was joking with me saying that he's picked out his room already, he's convinced he's going to end up here. Maybe it's a premonition. It's nice here, everyone is really friendly."

In appreciation of his generosity, bosses at Care UK, which manages the care home, presented Ed with a cheque for £500 ($312.50) for the charity of his choice, East Anglia's Children's Hospices.

The residents also presented him with a Lego set as a token of their gratitude.

Ed has had a triumphant return to his hometown over the past few days, as he was given an honorary doctorate from bosses at the nearby University Campus Suffolk in Ipswich on Monday (19Oct15) in recognition of his contribution to music.

The distinction was particularly special for Ed, as he dropped out of school at the age of 16 in order to pursue his music dreams and never attended college.

Now Ed can proudly show off his honorary degree and he took to Instagram after receiving the diploma.

"I graduated today, I am now officially Dr. Sheeran," he wrote
