And the 50-year-old funnyman says that agreeing to host next year’s Academy Awards proves he has no hard feelings.
Murphy famously left the 2007 Oscar ceremony soon after he failed to win the Best Supporting Actor award, sparking claims that he had stormed out in protest.
But the Brooklyn-born star, who is currently starring in action comedy Tower Heist alongside Ben Stiller, tells Rolling Stone Magazine that's not why he left.
'Afterwards, people were like, 'He's upset'. And I'm like, 'I wasn't upset!'” Murphy says.
'What happened was after I lost, I'm just chilling and I was sitting next to Beyoncé's pops [Mathew Knowles] and he leans over and grabs me and is like, 'There will be other times'.
“And then you feel [Steven] Spielberg on your shoulder going, 'It's all right, man'. Then Clint Eastwood walks by, 'Hey guy…'
'So I was like, 'It's not going to be THIS night'. [Mimes getting up] I didn't have sour grapes at all. That's another reason [why] I wanted to host the show – to show them that I'm down with it.'
The actor-comedian, who appears on the cover of the US music mag’s November issue, has agreed to host the Hollywood ceremony next year, but says that he hasn't decided exactly what he's going to do on the night.
'When I was like, 'I'll do it', the first thing I said was, 'I ain't doing no big stupid musical number'. But we'll come up with something funny,' he says.
