Hugh Jackman has described Eddie Murphy as the "perfect choice" to host next year's Oscar ceremony.
Jackman, who hosted the Academy Awards in 2009, said he was delighted that X-Men: The Last Stand producer Brett Ratner chose Murphy for the role.
He told Digital Spy: "I think it's fantastic. I think most people thought that would never happen but it's ideal. My hat's off to Brett Ratner, who's the producer and obviously convinced him to do it.
"[Eddie Murphy is] Hollywood royalty, a huge movie star and great, great comedian. It's the perfect choice."
Asked if he would be interested in resuming hosting duties, The Wolverine star replied: "I'd love to do it again, but if I don't I'm forever grateful for having that shot."
The 84th Academy Awards will be held in Los Angeles on February 26, 2012.
