Elton John and David Furnish are working on a biopic of John's career which will be made via their Rocket Pictures imprint.
The pair are working with Lee Hall who wrote the screenplay and Broadway book for Billy Elliot. Furnish and Steve Hamilton Shaw are producing with Elton as executive producer. Plans are for the film, currently titled Rocketman, to be a bit different than most of the genre, being called a "biographical musical fantasy" that begins with Elton at the age of 11, when he was a piano prodigy, and carries through the bulk of his career.
Shaw told Deadline.com "Rocketman will be a radically different kind of biopic. It will be as unique as Elton's life, told in a non-linear and hyper-visual manner that will transport people through the many intense experiences, some wonderful, some not, that helped define Elton as an artist, musician and man."
Rocket Pictures last film was the animated feature Gnomeo & Juliet.
