Sir Elton John says becoming a father again is "unbelievable".
The British singer and his partner David Furnish were said to have welcomed a second son into the world earlier this month, with reports breaking on January 10. At the time Elton's representative denied the speculation, but the star has now confirmed that Elijah Joseph Daniel Furnish-John was born on Friday January 11 at 6.40pm.
"Both of us have longed to have children, but the reality that we now have two sons is almost unbelievable. The birth of our second son completes our family in a most precious and perfect way. It is difficult to fully express how we are feeling at this time; we are just overwhelmed with happiness and excitement," the pair told Hello! magazine.
Elijah was 8lbs. 4oz. when he was born via surrogate in Los Angeles.
Elton and David already have two-year-old Zachary and it has been widely reported that Elijah was born using the same surrogate.
News the couple were adding to their family broke in November, with an insider claiming they will never reveal the name of the woman who helped them become parents.
"Elton and David love this lady like a sister and they feel indebted to her for life," a source said.
"Naturally she has been well rewarded. But her identity will never be revealed. They are over the moon."
Last year, the 65-year-old star admitted he would love more children and hoped Zachary wouldn't grow up as an only child.
"We definitely will have another one. At what stage we don't know, but we definitely will," he said.
"I regret a little bit that I didn't do it sooner, but he has changed our lives."
