Elton John honoured

Sir Elton John and Sharon Osbourne have been named as honorees for the forth annual So The World May Hear Awards Gala to be held on July 20 in Minnesota.

The Starkey Hearing Foundation put on the awards each year to honour people in the entertainment industry who have made a significant contribution to humanity.

Actor Leslie Nielsen will also be honoured on the evening.

"We believe strongly in doing our part to make the world a better place-as do this year's honorees," said William Austin, Starkey Hearing Foundation founder said in a statement. "It's magical to see children's faces light up when they hear again. Through its worldwide missions, that's just what the Starkey Hearing Foundation does -- it makes magic. Our 'So the World May Hear' Awards Gala serves to recognize all those who make magic in the world with us."

Comedian Norm Crosby will be Master of Ceremonies for the evening. Elton John will perform.

All monies raised will go to the Starkey Hearing Foundation to help its mission of promoting hearing health awareness, providing hearing aids for the needy, and supporting hearing research and education.
