For the first time in his career, Elton John will appear on the Emmy Awards, scheduled for Sunday, September 22.
Elton will appear with a tribute to Liberace as part of a tie-in with the TV movie Behind the Candelabra. The HBO film, starring Michael Douglas and Matt Damon, is nominated for fifteen awards.
The singer has never been nominated at the Emmys, which honors television programming, but he is an Oscar winner for the song Can You Feel the Love Tonight from The Lion King (1995), a Tony winner for Best Original Musical Score (Aida, 2000) and a six-time Grammy Award winner.
