24 unfinished Bob Dylan tracks from the 1960s are to be recorded by the likes of Elvis Costello, Marcus Mumford and more.
A roster of musicians are set to put the tracks, written around 1967, to music, in a project helmed by legendary producer T Bone Burnett. Elvis Costello, Mumford & Son's Marcus Mumford, My Morning Jacket's Jim James, Taylor Goldsmith of Dawes and Carolina Chocolate Drops' Carolina Giddens are amongst the musicians working on the tracks.
The project will culminate in an album and a Showtime TV special chronicling the recording of the tracks, as reported by the LA Times.
"These are not B-level Dylan lyrics," Burnett has said of the project. "They’re lyrics he just never got around to finishing." Indeed, Dylan himself has given the project his blessing.
The aim of the project is to echo the recording process of Dyan's Basement Tapes sessions, which also took place in 1967. Dylan and his band recorded in a house in New York, with all musicians contributing to every single part of the recording process.
The album and TV special, Lost Songs: The Basement Tapes Continued, are expected this autumn.
