Elvis Costello is reviving a concept he last used on tour in 1986 for his Revolver Tour, kicking off on May 7 in Oakland, California.
The tour uses the "Spectacular Spinning Songbook", a large carnival-type wheel that has forty songs listed on it. Audience members are invited to come on stage and give the wheel a spin to chose the band's next song. They are also offered a chance to enter the "Hostage to Fortune Go-Go Cage" where they will stay while their song is played or may choose to go to the "Society Lounge" on-stage "where light refreshments will be served."
Costello is bringing the Imposters with him for the tour (Steve Nieve (keyboards); Pete Thomas (drums) and Davey Faragher (bass)).
Whether the wheel shown on the poster for the tour is the final version is not known but, if it is the final design, we can see a number of the possible songs for the evening (depending on attendees spinning prowess):
•Little Triggers
•God Give Me Strength
•Spooky Girlfriend
•Watching the Detectives
•Almost Blue
•Puppet Girl
•I Want You
