Elvis Costello returns to the UK in June to play a handful of hugely anticipated shows, including solo concerts in Birmingham, Oxford and Cardiff. Elvis will start the tour with an appearance at the Richard Thompson curated Meltdown festival in London. Elvis himself directed the Southbank Centre event 15 years ago. The final show in Liverpool will also feature his current stellar band The Sugarcanes.
The gigs are Elvis' first dates in the UK since the release of his critically acclaimed 'Secret, Profane & Sugarcane' album in June 2009. The hand-picked collection of Costello tunes recorded in a string-swathed country style alongside long-term collaborator and producer T-Bone Burnett was described by The Observer as "[Costello] in fine, lovelorn country form".
