EMINEM has revealed how he is finally ready to reconcile with his mother after battling the same addictions.
The rapper has been struggling with drug abuse since the release of his last album, Encore, in 2004.
Eminem, real name Marshall Mathers III, has been sober for a year, but he admitted that it has been an uphill struggle to kick the habit.
He revealed that at one stage he was taking 20 painkillers a day and once almost overdosed on methadone.
And he said that from his own battle with substance abuse, he had finally come to terms with the problems his mother, Debbie Mathers, faced as she battled her own addictions.
Speaking candidly to Vibe magazine, he said: "It never once hit me that drug addiction runs in my family. Now I understand that I'm an addict, I definitely have compassion for my mother. I get it."
He and his mother have been locked in a feud for almost ten years, but last month, his grandmother pleaded with him to reconcile after Debbie was reported to be dying after undergoing heart surgery.
Betty Kresin appealed to the rapper and his 13-year-old daughter Hailie to make their peace and said: "My daughter Debbie is very sick. Her dying wish is to reconcile with her son and see her granddaughter. It's do or die and Marshall needs to see her before it's too late."
