The I Can Hear Your Heartbeat singer is currently in Australia to attend the Melbourne Cup horse race.
Speaking to Aussie TV show, Sunrise about his father, he said: “I love his music and I respect him so much, not just for his music, but as a father.
“But once I signed a record contract when I was 18, I had one of those small fights that you get into with your parents. Afterwards, I never really turned back. I never called him for any advice.”
He added: “The reason was, I had grown up with him, I had seen him up close since I was a kid. I had the best schooling I could get.”
Talking about being a heart-throb, he said: “Being a sex symbol is not in my blood, trust me. If you saw me in high-school, you’d realise it wasn’t in my blood.
“Let’s be honest, fame changes everything.
“When you’re famous, you’re sexy, people want you. Women, everybody, everybody wants you when you’re famous.
“But when you’re going through a rough patch, you realise who your real friends are. It’s kinda sad.”
