Outsiders, Envy & Other Sins, have today won the first series of T4's mobileAct unsigned in association with Sony Ericsson and Orange. The Birmingham based band, beat Lily Allen's favourites, Revenue, to walk away with an amazing record deal from Polydor's A&M Records.
Envy & Other Sins were announced winners at today's GRAND FINAL aired LIVE from the Riverside Studios, Hammersmith after an online public vote deemed them the best unsigned band in Britain who write and perform their own material.
Following their triumph, the band will now release their self-penned single, Highness, which will go straight to radio in the New Year with an official release date of 11th February. The single was recorded in the legendary Olympic Studios and the band will now be heading back into the studio to work on their debut album, which will be released on 3rd March.
A flabbergasted Jarvey Moss says "This is the dawning of the age of furniture rock – we never expected our big break to be on a reality show; we've always been about making music and now we've got the chance to do it on a bigger stage."
Throughout the 12 week competition, a prestigious panel have been judging the bands including: Radio 1's new music aficionado, Jo Whiley, Blur bassist and songwriter Alex James and Simon Gavin, Head of A&M Records, the man who has the ultimate prize of signing Envy & Other Sins. mobileAct unsigned was hosted by T4 favourite Alex Zane.
Commenting on the competition, Alex James said: "It's been very exciting to be part of a show searching for new bands that have something special about them. Unlike other talent shows which just parade puppets and morons desperate for fame, mobileAct unsigned was all about good original songs."
Grand final repeats Saturday December 29th 2007, midday.
