Evanescence to take 'big risks' on next album

The melodramatic goth rockers get U2's producer to take big risks on their third album.

NME reports that Evanescence have hooked up with Steve Lillywhite, who produced Boy, War, and October for their long-awaited third album.

Drummer Will Hunt said they're ready to take 'some really big risks', including adding more electronic sounds.

He said, 't's always going to sound like Evanescence, because it's Amy Lee singing. But the vehicle for that voice can be different and still be Evanescence. She is taking some real big risks and honestly, I think it's amazing!'

The forthcoming album will be their first in five years, since 2006's The Open Door and the first that they've recorded since the band swapped three members in 2006 and 2007.

The Arkansas group, who now includes guitarist Terry Balsamo and bassist Tim McCord, sold over 20 million copies of their first two albums.

Their third album was originally slated for an August or September 2010 release. They hope to release it before the end of this year.
