The Flaming Lips will release a full cover version of the Stone Roses debut album for this year's Black Friday edition of Record Store Day.
The release, like their 2010 cover of Dark Side of the Moon, will include a number of up-and-coming acts that have caught the group's eye including Poliça, Foxygen's Jonathan Rado, Peaking Lights, Stardeath and White Dwarfs (who were also on Moon), New Fumes and Def Rain.
Stone Roses was released in 1989 and was embraced by some critics but only made it to number 19 in the U.K. and 86 in the U.S. Since that time, it's reputation has grown and is now considered a highly influential work.
The full track list has not been released yet, but it is known that the track Fool's Gold is included which was added for the 1989 U.S. (9:53 version) and 1991 U.K. (4:15 version) re-releases of the album but not on the original sets. According to Rolling Stone, Spaceface perform on Gold, Poliça on She Bangs the Drum and Jonathan Rado of Foxygen on This is the One.
Coyne and the band have a number of other releases ready for Black Friday.
- Fuck You Frog, a toy frog that includes a 7-inch recording of the group's first ever demo. Coyne told Rolling Stone "That is our very first demo that we ever recorded that's never been released before. So you get that in this packet. This little frog that's kind of a recorder that you can manipulate the sound on."
- A life size chocolate skull with "brain fluid flavoured hard candy" which contains a gold coin inside that supposedly allows you to get into any Flaming Lips show.
- A vinyl version of the group's Peace Sword EP from the move Ender's Game.
