The Foo Fighters brought the curtain down on this year's Oxegen Festival with a rambunctious set in front of tens of thousands of fans.
The band, playing the final show of their current European tour, paid tribute to some of their favourite bands at the Irish festival, singling out Death From Above 1979 and The Killers for special praise. Front-man Dave Grohl also dedicated ‘Up In Arms' to "the main man", the legendary James Brown, who was also appearing today.
Despite The Foos best efforts and though New Order were headlining the Second Stage working through classics including ‘Bizarre Love Triangle' and ‘Love Will Tear Us Apart', the day belonged to The Killers. Though only third on the bill, the Las Vegas favourites drew the biggest ever crowd at the festival with 40,000 adoring fans â€" at a conservative estimate â€" thronging the main stage to see them. Such was their appeal, that all the other stages suffered with just handfuls collected to watch when The Killers were in action.
Their flawless set saw them again work through new song ‘All The Pretty Things' as well as crowd pleasers ‘Mr Brightside' and ‘All These Things That I've Done'.
Other bands who scored big today included The Futureheads, The Streets, Editors and The Las.
Such was the success of this year's festival â€" which saw 70,000 fans pack into Punchestown Racecourse over the two days â€" that organisers are putting tickets on-sale for next year within a matter of days. There are also whispers of an increased capacity for 2006.document.write(unescape("
