Franz Ferdinand destroy music scene

Franz Ferdinand have revealed that they are afraid their success has destroyed the Glasgow music scene.

The band, who released their second album 'You Could Have It So Much Better' Monday (October 3), formed and developed their sound in their Scottish base, but now fear that the spotlight is on the city which could affect the progress of new groups.

Guitarist Nick McCarthy said: "I don't know if it's a good or a bad thing that people are watching Glasgow a bit more closely. To be honest, it might destroy it."

He added: "If you're in London you get picked up and you're the next big thing before you've even any songs. In Glasgow there was no attention and we had a year to write our songs and progress and find our identity. Then it suddenly exploded."

Singer Alex Kapranos said that despite Glasgow's new recognition, Franz Ferdinand were always going to return home to record the follow-up to last year's self-titled debut.

He told The Daily Record: "After having been on the road for over a year we really wanted to come back to Scotland and just be somewhere we called home and was comfortable."

"We wanted to do it at home because we felt studios are not the most relaxed of environments - they're not the best places for being creative," Kapranos explained. "When we first got the band together we used to go round to each others' houses and get a bottle of wine, have a bit of a chat, play some records and play some of our own tunes.
