Franz Ferdinand return with new single

Franz Ferdinand have chosen 'Do You Want To' as their comeback single â€" and have told NME.COM of the debauched night out in Glasgow that inspired it.

The song, released on September 19, was inspired by a party in Franz's hometown, where singer Alex Kapranos found himself being made all kinds of offers from those in attendance.

He told NME.COM: “We all went to this party in Glasgow one night. The way people have conversations with each other at parties such as that, because the music's so loud, they don't talk to each other, they just yell things in each others ears.”

He added: “When I came back later that night I was a wee bit steaming still and scribbled down on a bit of paper some of the things people had been yelling in my ear. Some of them were really funny.”

Feeling the effects of the night before, the only way Alex could deal with his hangover was to pick up his guitar.

He continued: “I had nothing to do that day, I was quite comfortable so I picked up the guitar and had this little riff that I quite liked and I started singing some of these things that people had been yelling into my ear the night before. Suddenly, it turned into this song.”

The lyrics include: “When I woke up tonight I said ‘I'm gonna make somebody love me' / I'm gonna make somebody love me / And now I know now I know now I know that it's you / You're so lucky luck lucky.”

Elsewhere, Alex sings “So here we are at the transmission party / I love your friends they're all so arty oh yeah.”

Alex said that the lyrics are made up from “lots of different offers for different kinds of things”, but is refusing to name and shame those involved.

He laughed: “They all didn't come from one person. I think some of the people wouldn't want to be reminded of some of the things they were yelling in my ear that night and I'm certainly not going to mention any names otherwise they'd absolutely kill me. Or at least their boyfriends will!”

The video for the track will be shot in New York in the coming weeks. Their second album is now almost complete and Franz are just working on the final tracklisting.

Possible future singles include ‘The Fallen', ‘Walk Away' and ‘Turn It On'.

The band have redesigned the artwork for the new album. Based on a black, red and green colour scheme, the second album's cover now features a girl shouting the band's name. The album is out on October 3.
