Geri Halliwell has imposed a year-long "man ban" on herself.
The 36-year-old former Spice Girls singer - who called off her engagement to Italian millionaire Fabrizio Politi two weeks ago - has decided to take a break from dating so she can resolve her phobia of commitment.
A friend told Britain's Heat magazine: "Even though she initiated it, Geri is gutted over her break-up with Fabrizio. She feels like a failure in the romance department, so she says she's going to take a year off from dating.
"She's going to do some serious self-examination and figure out the root of her commitment issues. She is prepared to go a full year without a man in her life."
Geri - who has a two-year-old daughter Bluebell from her previous relationship with screenwriter Sacha Gervasi - got engaged to Fabrizio, 34, shortly after they met last December, but soon decided she would rather be on her own.
A source said: "Geri woke up one morning last week and decided she just wasn't the marrying type.
"She loved being in a relationship but decided that all she needs is her daughter Bluebell to keep her happy. Fabrizio is upset but totally respects Geri's wishes."
