Green Day touring guitarist Jason White is being treated for cancer of the tonsil according to the band's website.
The announcement was posted on Friday:
We have some news to report regarding our brother Jason White, and wanted you to hear it from us before word spread. Jason recently underwent a routine tonsillectomy, and his doctors discovered a treatable form of tonsil cancer. Thankfully they caught it early and he should make a full and speedy recovery.
Please join us in sending him love and positive healing vibes during this time.
This is the second time in just over six months that cancer has hit the Green Day family. In May, bassist Mike Dirnt announced that his wife, Brittney, was diagnosed with breast cancer.
White was a friend of Green Day when he appeared in the music video for their single When I Come Around in 1994. That same year, he helped found the band Pinhead Gunpowder which also included Billie Joe Armstrong.
He joined Green Day as their touring second guitarist in 2000 after the band made the album Warning and continued to work on other band side projects including The Network and Foxboro Hot Tubs. Throughout the 2000's he appeared in the band's videos, toured with them and occasionally played on new releases. In late 2012, he officially became the fourth member of the band.
