He was named to Vibe magazine's "The 31 Most Stylish People 31 and Under," but one thing you'll never catch Gym Class Heroes frontman Travis McCoy wearing is fur. That's why the New York–based indie hip-hop artist recently teamed up with his pals at peta2—the world's largest youth animal rights organization—to shoot a brand-new public service announcement (PSA) slamming fur.
In the PSA, McCoy is making "bunny ears" with his fingers and holding Thumper the rabbit next to the tagline "Bunny Ears, Not Bunny Fur." The colorful ad was styled after the band's newest album, The Quilt (Decaydance/Fueled by Ramen), and was shot by ace photographer Bree Kristel Clarke during the 2008 Warped Tour.
And for a limited time, visitors to peta2.com who check out the ad can register to win prizes from the band.
The PSA goes on to explain that every year, rabbits and other animals are strangled, beaten, clubbed, and electrocuted all in the name of "fashion." It concludes with a plea to McCoy's legions of loyal fans: "Please don't wear any fur or fur trim."
McCoy joins a growing list of musicians—including Cobra Starship, Fall Out Boy, and All Time Low—who have teamed up with peta2 to inspire kids to challenge outdated and cruel attitudes toward animals.
