Daryl Hall and John Oates this week joined the ranks of the Bee Gees, Paul Simon, James Brown, Brian Wilson, Isaac Hayes, Carlos Santana and Dolly Parton to be awarded the title BMI Icons.
BMI honored the duo at the 56th Pop Music Awards, held in Los Angeles because they are a "unique and indelible influence on generations of music makers."
Hall & Oates have had eight no. 1 singles in the USA, as well as three double platinum albums and two platinum albums.
Their string of hits includes 'Kiss On My List', 'Maneater', 'She's Gone' and 'Everytime You Go Away'.
BMI represents 6.5 million compositions in its catalogue.
