Following the huge success of last years 'Luxury Gap' Roundhouse gig, Heaven 17 are bringing the album back for a National UK tour. The band will be playing 'The Luxury Gap' album in full featuring their classic hits: Come Live With Me, Let Me Go, Crushed By The Wheels of Industry and of course everyone's favourite "Temptation'.
The Luxury Gap has never been more relevant, written during the height of Thatcherism by three Left-leaning young men against a backdrop of over 3 million unemployed the parallels with the Britain of today are obvious. With a Millionaire cabinet, and employment figures once again the same, Heaven 17's post-modern critique of our society has never sounded so resonant.
Coming out of the Sheffield electronic music scene in the early 80's, Martyn Ware (keyboards/ production) and Ian Marsh (keyboards) were founding members of The Human League, but left the band to set up Heaven 17 with Glenn Gregory (vocals) taking their name from the fictional band in A Clockwork Orange.
Heaven 17 have accrued 7 top 40 hit singles and 4 top 40 albums throughout their glittering career. The Luxury Gap was their second album, reaching number 4 in the UK charts and achieving platinum status selling over 300,000 copies in the UK alone. Their first top 40 hit single 'Temptation' in 1983 was taken from the album and shot the band into the charts at number 2 as they fast became one of the most respected, stylish and celebrated bands of the 80's. Gregory also appeared on the original Band Aid album alongside Sting & Midge Ure, but despite their commercial success on both sides of the Atlantic, the band always managed to maintain a credible & underground heritage.
