16th May 2005 sees the release of Ian McNabb's first single in nearly ten years 'Let The Young Girl Do What She Wants To', available in two formats complete with strictly limited bonus tracks: 7' 'Let The Young Girl Do What She Wants To' c/w 'They Will Find You Out' (Fair 5) and CD featuring 'Let The Young Girl Do What She Wants To' c/w 'They Shoot Horses Don't They?' and 'Message From The Country' (Fair CD5). 'Let the Young Girl Do What She Wants To' is taken from the forthcoming album, 'Before All Of This' (Fairfield/Universal Music Operations), released on 30th May 2005.
Working with Charlatans/John Martyn producer, Mike Cave in McNabb's native Liverpool, the recording of 'Before All of This' seemed to be as up and down as the relationships it was inspired by… Starting as an acoustic album, McNabb changed his mind after its completion and shelved it for a year, before experimenting with a series of electronic tracks. 'I was torn between the two so decided to have the best of both worlds and made the final cut a mixture of both albums' says McNabb.
Many will be familiar with McNabb's earlier work with The Icicle Works - the band scored two major hit singles 'Birds Fly (Whisper to Scream)' and 'Love is a Wonderful Colour' in the 80s. Since the band dissolved in 1990 he has enjoyed huge success as a solo artist, including a prestigious Mercury prize nomination for ‘Head Like A Rock' (recorded with Neil Young's band Crazy Horse) in 1994, and an inclusion into Q magazine's 'Best albums released during Qs lifetime,' not forgetting seven solo studio albums under his belt.
Yet despite a career spanning over twenty years, McNabb believes he is only now getting started! Ian McNabb played a number of headline shows last year as well as major festival appearances at Guildfest, T-In The Park, Summer Sundae and he topped the bill on the ‘New Bands' stage at Glastonbury before selling out a homecoming gig in Liverpool. 2005 sees McNabb hit the road on a series of solo and full band shows and he was personally invited by John Martyn to join him on a new UK tour.
