Icona Pop: 'UK festivals are so clean compared to Swedish ones'

Rising Swedish stars Icona Pop have revealed their love of festivals, but claim nothing at UK events can compare to what takes place in Sweden.

Speaking to Gigwise, Caroline Hjelt and Aino Jawo spoke of their love for Glastonbury, but reveal they were shocked at how 'clean' they found the Westcountry event.

"It was a very clean festival if you compare it to a Swedish festival," says Jawo, after the duo attended the festival in 2011. "In Sweden you can see puke all over the place and people pooing all over the floor outside, it's terrible. But I love it still.

"The Swedish are vikings remember - and they drink too much beer. They only ever drink on a Friday or Saturday, they don't go out for a beer in the middle of the week, people look at you strangely if you do."

They also reveal that their first time at Glastonbury was not entirely a success, after technical problems forced organisers to cancel the girls' DJ set.

"There were problems with the speakers so we waited for three hours only to be told we weren't going to be allowed to play," says Caroline. "We were like 'are you f***ing kidding?', because we'd come all the way from Sweden and we were told 'sorry, you can play next year'. But there was no next year because it's taking a year off in 2012!"

"I love when I haven't showered for a week and that's why I like going to festivals so I can feel like a pig," adds Jawo.
