23-year-old guitar playing Ida is a nervy nymph of the perverse – as gobby as Liam Gallagher, as dangerous live as Beth Ditto, and as punkily pixie-like as Bjork.
She prefers naked men to whale meat, writes songs about God giving the world away to a 43-year-old prostitute from Manhattan, and regularly damages herself and her band members on stage (recent injuries include an unconscious bass player and four cracked ribs).
Ida Maria's first outing on wax - the ltd edition 7" 'Oh My God' (a song "to have a panic attack to") – was well received by critics and DJS alike. Fans include Steve Lamacq, John Kennedy, Drownedinsound.com, Dazed & Confused, The Fly, Time Out and The Guardian.
Now Ida Maria is set to release 'Drive Away My Heart'. Referencing what Ida describes as 'the darkest year of her life', 'Drive Away My Heart' is a song about when Ida felt like 'I didn't need my heart anymore. I wanted it to be disposed off and taken away. So I fell in love with someone who stole my heart. Later I found it at the police station. They had taken good care of it. I signed some papers and finally got it back."
'Drive Away My Heart' will be released on limited edition 7" on the 10th December 2007.
