Il Volo wins the classic Italian Festival di Sanremo.
The Italian operatic pop trio, consisting of singers: tenors Piero Barone and Ignazio Boschetto, and baritone Gianluca Ginoble made it to the top of the pile at the prstigious Italian festival.
In its 65th year the poplular song contest announced the act will be representing Italy at the Eurovision Song Contest.
Presenter Carlo Conti assisted by last year's winner Arisa, last year's Italian performer at the Eurovision Song Contest Emma, and Spanish actress and dancer Rocio Muñoz awarded the trophy to the new winners.
An expert jury (30%), a demoscopic jury (30%) and televoting (40%) decided on the outcome and produced a superfinal with the Top 3:
Il Volo - Grande amore 1st (39%)
Nek - Fatti avanti amore 2nd (35%)
Malika Ayane - Adesso e qui (Nostalgico presente) 3rd (26%)
The winner among these sixteen was automatically invited to represent Italy at the 2015 Eurovision Song Contest in Vienna.
