Once a Norse god and a malicious alien race lay waste to midtown Manhattan, things don't exactly go back to normal, and that applies to the Marvel universe as well. As Tony Stark explains in a brand-new clip from "Iron Man 3," "Nothing's been the same since New York."
Robert Downey, Jr. is back as the philanthropist, billionaire playboy for his third solo mission, but this is not business as usual for the Marvel superhero. The effects of Loki's takeover of New York City are lingering in Tony's mind, leaving him unable to sleep at night.
"You experience things, and then they're over and you still can't explain them," he says to Gwyneth's Paltrow's Pepper Potts. "Gods, aliens, other dimensions, I'm just a man in a can."
Tony has been using his insomnia to be productive, however. The army of Iron Man suits that have been at the center of the ad campaign, including a Hulk-sized heavy lifter, has become an obsession for the former arms dealer. Unable to sleep, Stark has put himself fully into suit development, eventually ending up with dozens of variations on the classic red and gold armor.
While there won't be any gods, aliens or other dimensions in "Iron Man 3," Tony will have some serious evil to contend with. As the international terrorist the Mandarin, Sir Ben Kingsley will be doing his best to make Iron Man's life a living hell.
"Iron Man 3" also marks the return of Don Cheadle as Iron Man's right-hand man in a suit, War Machine, and this time he'll be sporting a more patriotic red, white and blue suit.
"Iron Man 3" opens in theaters on May 3.
