Ivor Novello Awards

The 49th presentation of the Ivor Novello Awards for British songwriters, composers and music publishers has been announced with Belle And Sebastian, Dizzee Rascal, Goldfrapp and Coldplay all up for gongs.

Ash, Coldplay and U2 have recently been honoured with awards, but this year sees Belle and Sebastian up against Will Young and Dido for the highly esteemed ‘Best Song Musically & Lyrically' award for ‘Step Into My Office Baby', while Dizzee Rascal will be battling it out for ‘Best Contemporary Song' alongside Amy Winehouse and Kylie Minogue.

Elsewhere Radiohead's Jonny Greenwood crops up in the ‘Best Original Film Score' category for his ‘Bodysong' movie soundtrack, while Coldplay have a chance at winning their second award in two years with ‘Clocks', which is up for the ‘PRS Most Performed Work' award.

The Ivors - presented annually by the British Academy of Composers and Songwriters - are bestowed on those musicians who are judged to have contributed especially to the world of music, and past winners include such legendary figures as John Lennon, Freddie Mercury and Cathy Dennis.

The 49th Ivor Novello Awards for British songwriters, composers and music will take place at Grosvenor House, Park Lane, London W1 on Thursday May 27.
