Jack Penate doesn't like his first album.
The 'Tonight's Today' hitmaker says he is dissatisfied with 2007's 'Matinee' because he wrote songs he thought other people would appreciate, despite not enjoying them himself.
He said: "With the last record I got so low. I saw myself as an artist I wouldn't find exciting. That was something I found really hard to deal with. I didn't want to be generic or mainstream but I came through with a lot of similar artists that I was lumped in with.
"I'm not disappointed with the first record, I just feel it's not who I am.
"I made the album so people could understand it, maybe people who don't listen to music. I now realise you should never do that, you should only do it for yourself."
Jack changed his mindset while recording new LP 'Everything Is New' and is proud of his latest effort.
He added: "I just thought, 'Let's forget anything's happened. Let's make a record I'm immensely proud of, full stop'. From now on, I'm going to always do that."
