Jack White has accidentally started a new band.
The White Stripes and Raconteurs frontman unveiled his new project The Dead Weather at a launch party in Nashville yesterday (11.03.09) and despite planning to release an album and tour, the singer admits the group never intended to go that far.
He explained: "The idea was to do a 7-inch single and be done with it, but we started writing songs and something happened."
Also involved in The Dead Weather are The Kills rocker Alison Mosshart - whose bandmate is Kate Moss' boyfriend Jamie Hince - and Jack's Raconteurs bandmates Dean Fertita and Jack Lawrence, who also play with Queens of the Stone Age and The Greenhornes respectively.
The Dead Weather - described by one party guest as "a stripped-down version of the White Stripes" - will release their debut album 'Horehound' on Jack's Third Man record label in June.
Despite launching his new project, Jack has no plans to turn his back on his other groups.
Speaking about the White Stripes, his manager Ian Mordona said: "They've made a movie and there will be a new album out, probably next year."
Among the 150 guests at the launch event were Jack's White Stripes bandmate Meg White, fellow Raconteurs rocker Brendan Benson and singer Sheryl Crow.
