Jakwob aka London-based producer, DJ and multi-instrumentalist musician James Jacob is set to start 2014 with a bang, announcing not just a brand new single but his signing to one of the hottest independent labels in the game, Digital Soundboy.
With legendary underground dance pioneer Shy FX on A&R duties, Digital Soundboy is home to some of electronic music's freshest talents and leading lights including Breakage, Dismantle and Radio 1's B. Traits, with a back catalogue of releases that reads like a who's who of Bass, Dubstep and UK Funky: Skream, Benga, Redlight, Caspa, Rusko, Calibre, DJ Fresh... the list goes on, and now Jakwob joins the family.
Commenting on his new signing, Jakwob said, "I'm really excited to be working with Shy and the whole crew over at Digital Soundboy. I've always really admired what they stand for and to get the chance to be a part of that is a real honour. I look forward to us having lots of success together".
'Somebody New' is due out on March 30th and marks his first release for the label following collaborations with Charli XCX, Ghostpoet and Kyla La Grange, remixes for music royalty including Usher and Lana Del Rey, and last year's hit single 'Fade' which saw heavy support from the likes of Zane Lowe, MistaJam and Huw Stephens, racing up to the Radio 1 b-list and cementing Jakwob as one of the UK's most talented producers on the rise.
'Somebody New' is an accomplished follow up; a deftly produced bittersweet club track with downbeat vocals from new talent Tiffani Juno punctuating a skittering beat and housey piano stabs, with words apt for the fresh start that 2014 brings for the young producer, "Boy I just think times have changed."
Listen to 'Somebody New' below.
Remixes come courtesy of Dismantle, TCTS, Paul Woolford's Special Request and Shy FX plus a Jakwob VIP.
