On 8 December 2008 James Yorkston is to release the first single from his fourth studio album 'When The Haar Rolls In'. Available as a 7" and digital download single, James' recording of 'Tortoise Regrets Hare' is backed by fellow Fence Collective member King Creosote's version of the title track.
The single is bookended by November / December UK dates, which see James play the following venues:
November
Monday 17 Manchester Night & Day
Tuesday 18 York Fibbers
Wednesday 19 Southampton Joiners
Thursday 20 Bristol Louisiana
Friday 21 Oxford Bullingdon Arms
Saturday 22 Aldershot West End Centre
Monday 24 Swindon Vic
Tuesday 25 Derby Royal
Wednesday 26 Newcastle Sage
Thursday 27 Aberdeen Carmelite Hotel
Saturday 29 Glasgow Stereo
December
Thursday 11 London St Giles Church
The regional dates will be James Yorkston solo shows with support from Pictish Trail and Rozi Plain, whilst the London show sees James playing a full band show with The Athletes, with support from a Malcolm Middleton acoustic set.
Returning with his trusty Athletes, along with some legendary English folk names - Norma Waterson, Mike Waterson, Marry Gilhooly and Olly Knight, there is much to mine for Yorkston fans of old and new within 'When The Haar Rolls In', all the ambition, beauty and pathos of his previous albums is sweeping through with the soothing, lush arrangements of all sorts: the timpani, clarinets, violins, vibraphone, concertinas, bull bass, prepared pianos, mandolins, bouzoukis, banjos and wine glasses.
In addition to the regular album release, 'When The Haar Rolls In' is also available as a limited edition deluxe box set from the Domino website, which, as well as the CD edition of the album also includes a double 10" vinyl long player of the record with a bonus track, and a CD of James Yorkston songs covered by Archie Bronson Outfit, U.N.P.O.C and others (from which the single's b side is taken). The set also features a CD of James Yorkston remixes, including the rare Four Tet remix of 'The Lang Toun', an exclusive James Yorkston pin badge and canvas bag.
Not only that; but one of the 1000 box sets will contain a Golden Ticket which will grant one very lucky fan their very own James Yorkston composition written just for them and, if James is playing a town near them, he will perform the song for them.
