Nokia has given the humble jukebox a makeover for the 21st Century. Classic vinyl has been replaced by multi million record selling artist, Jamie Cullum playing live renditions of the UK's favourite songs on a theatrical stage, creating the world's first human jukebox on London's Oxford Street on Saturday, 6th December.
Like the jukeboxes of old, people can select a song they would like to hear but the similarities end there, as the Nokia Human Jukebox's striped curtains draw back to unveil the UK's most successful jazz artist performing his own rendition of the selected track.
Having sold over 4 million albums worldwide and recently recorded the title track for Oscar winning director Clint Eastwood's new film Gran Torino, Jamie Cullum had one of his most challenging performances yet, singing his own renditions of the Kings of Leon's latest single, Use Somebody Rhianna's Umbrella and Gene Kelly's classic Singing in the Rain.
The human jukeboxes, which will be appearing in cities across the UK throughout December, have been developed by Nokia to celebrate the launch of Nokia's Comes With Music service, a revolutionary way for people to discover and enjoy music. Following a groundbreaking agreement with the four largest record labels as well as some smaller independent labels, Comes With Music gives people a year of unlimited access to over three million songs from the Nokia Music Store catalogue, with the ability to keep all downloaded tracks even after the year is over.
The next Human Jukebox will be visiting Liverpool One shopping centre on 13th December.
