The 43-year-old is starring on the BBC dancing show while Barlow will be seen on rival channel ITV on talent show The X Factor.
Speaking to UK newspaper The Sun, he said: 'I'm very close friends with Gary and our wives are also extremely close.
'Gary's a massive fan of Strictly - primarily because he fancies himself in sequins on a regular basis.
'He'll be watching the show and texting me on Saturday night and I'm sure he'll probably avoid telling me the truth about my performance.
'I know he's also on TV on Saturday nights but I don't see us as competing. I know who's going to last longer in a competition - and it's probably him.'
