'N Sync reunited at the VMAs to honour Justin Timberlake.
Justin won a string of trophies at the MTV Video Music Awards over the weekend including the coveted Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award and Video of the Year. JC Chasez says 'N Sync was happy to put on a reunion performance after a decade-long hiatus because they all wanted to honour Justin for his successful solo career.
"You know, it was a matter of time," JC told Ryan Seacrest in a new radio interview. "Everybody would ask us, 'When are you guys going to do something?' First of all, it was the worst kept secret ever, [but] Justin gave me a buzz and he said, 'Hey man, listen. I'm getting this award and they have given me a pile of time to perform and we started our careers at MTV and I think we should get the band back together.' ... It really was about him and all that he's accomplished, but he wanted to acknowledge that part of his career so we all decided to do it."
The 1990s boy band sensation consists of Justin, JC, Chris Kirkpatrick, Joey Fatone, and Lance Bass.
They have remained close after declaring they disbanding in 2002 and JC claims rehearsing for the VMAs felt natural.
"Literally, two minutes after seeing everybody you feel like no time has passed," he said. "Essentially everybody has remained the same and we all see each other at different times … but this was the first time we had a rehearsal together in ten years, so everyone was going, 'Can we go through this one more time slowly?'… so that part was pretty funny."
JC insists 'N Sync won't be staging a Backstreet Boys style concert tour in the future and added that the band only came together again to "support Justin".
Justin wrote an open letter on his website to fans following his big VMA win, telling them to "catch your breath" as he will be releasing his The 20/20 Experience 2 of 2 on September 30th.
