Jennifer Hudson thinks Empire has a "specialness about it".
The Oscar winning actress and singer will be taking on a guest role in the Fox musical drama which stars Terrence Howard and Taraji P. Henson. And the 33-year-old couldn't hide her excitement during a chat with Access Hollywood at the Academy Awards on Sunday night.
"It is the best vibe ever. I think that's part of the magic in the show, you know. It just has this specialness about it," she said. "I love it. I love the experience of being there and everything."
Jennifer will be singing and performing on the show in upcoming episodes. As a keen viewer of the show, the former American Idol contestant loved being on the other side of the screen.
"That's another thing I love about that show because it gives that platform, that outlet, you know, because there's not many shows like that," she said.
Empire focuses on a hip hop music and entertainment company, Empire Enterprises, and the drama among the members of the founders' family as they fight for control of the company. Terrence plays Lucious Lyon, a former drug dealer turned hip hop mogul and the CEO of Empire Entertainment, while Taraji stars as his ex-wife Cookie. When asked whose side she was on, Jennifer struggled to choose between the two characters.
"I love them both. I can't choose. I love Cookie. Everyone knows a Cookie, right?" she questioned before finally picking. "Okay, I'm Team Cookie. Sorry, Terrence."
