Jennifer Lopez announced she was ending her marriage to Marc Anthony in July but the pair have yet to officially file for divorce.
It is emerging that the couple, who were married for seven years before their split, are still negotiating the terms of a settlement before moving forward with the legal end of their union.
The couple are parents to three-year-old twins Max and Emme and have substantial assets between them that they need to work out.
RadarOnline reports that the estranged pair's lawyers "have been working out terms of a settlement before they officially file for divorce."
"There is no rush to do so because both sides agree on the formal date of separation," an insider told the site.
"Marc and Jennifer have homes, businesses, and are minority owners of the Miami Dolphins football team. It's complicated and it could be at least several more months before final terms of the settlement are agreed upon.
"They will formally file in California because it's a no fault state and the divorce will be legal six months from the time it's filed."
Although still legally married, Jennifer has already moved on and is dating 24-year-old backing dancer Casper Smart. Her relationship with her toyboy has reportedly caused friction between her and Marc who is said to be unhappy about her moving on so quickly.
"Marc and J.Lo had a tense conference all when she was in Morocco," a source said. "Inevitably their discussion boiled down to her new boyfriend and Marc made the decision not to work with Jennifer last week as a result."
The pair were supposed to have been shooting their new Latin reality show, ¡Q'Viva! The Chosen, but Marc apparently refused because he was so upset.
