Jessica Lowndes still basking in the glory of engagement prank

Former 90210 actress Jessica Lowndes can't believe how many people believed she was engaged to Jon Lovitz.
The 27-year-old pretended to be in a relationship with the 58-year-old actor after teasing fans with a series of posts on Instagram over the Easter weekend (25-27Mar16), but after confirming it was all a big prank, Jessica explained to Billboard how the whole set up came about.
"I am definitely basking in this today, I cannot believe we pulled it off to this magnitude," she laughed. "I first fell in love with Jon platonically last year in Hawaii when we shot an episode of Hawaii Five-0. I just wanted him to keep making me laugh. He's one of the funniest human beings on the planet, so we kept in touch."
Jessica regularly shared updates on her music career with the former Saturday Night Live star, and asked him to play her lover in the video for her new track Deja Vu.
"I also wanted to do something different," she continued. "I love playing practical jokes, but I thought it would be a little too obvious to actually do an April Fools' joke on April Fools' (Day), so I decided to do it a few days earlier and I could not have asked for a better partner in crime."
Jessica had posted cryptic messages about an older man in her life on the social networking site before adding a picture of an engagement ring on her hand.
Jon then revealed he was the mystery man by posting a picture with Jessica on Sunday (27Mar16) captioned: "Easter with my bunny, @jessicalowndes".
Jessica admits even her nearest and dearest were fooled into thinking the story was true.
"I thought, 'Well, everyone in my life will know I'm kidding'." she said, "but I was shocked. People really close to me were thinking I was dating some sugar daddy. Friends of mine were saying, 'Congratulations, we thought you were going to be single forever!' or 'You found the one.'
"It goes to show the whole thing is so ridiculous. There's a power in being a total goofball and not caring how silly you look. Often I'm playing these dark, intense psychopath roles but I'm truly the biggest goofball you'll ever meet."
