A former member of Jethro Tull has had a sex change at the age of 66.
David Palmer, who played with the band for over 20 years, has changed her name to Dee, revealing that she's been wanting to have the operation for over sixty years.
Palmer, 66, is reported to have broken the news to flute playing frontman Ian Anderson with the following announcement: 'There's something I need to get off my increasingly ample chest.'
Keyboard player Palmer says she now plans to launch a solo career. Having left the group in 1980, she hopes the sex change will not interfere with her profile as a musician.
She said: 'I want to be judged on my music ability alone and nothing else.'
'I've felt like this since the age of three. It's not just wimps who want to do this. To be a girl, it goes a lot deeper than that. Yes, you are speaking to the person you thought I was â€" the keyboard player in Jethro Tull.'
Palmer apparently held off on the operation until her wife died nine years ago.
